WE CAN’T GET AWAY

When we lived in Hawaii, our mainland friends would visit us the year around, (free B&B at the Tannehill Hilton). So we moved to Hot Springs, SD and now we have Hawaiian visitors who have come to the Black Hills to see why we moved here (and play a little golf and B&B). But we have not gotten rid of the mainland house guests……….and they bring their dogs, also for B&B! This is a picture taken on our back deck at snack time.

Imagine how much dog food this gang eats!

GIFTS FOR DOBERMAN LOVERS

We have new shipements of T-shirts and sweatshirts with the DRON picture and E-mail address on them. These items would make excellent gifts for all dog lovers, not just for guys like us, and spread the word on Dobermans. And it might put a few bobs in our coffers, as well.

PUPPY vs ADULT ADOPTIONS

By Jim Tannehill

I have owned Dobermans for the past 80 years (that’s no typo) and have, until recently, only sought out puppies. From an owner’s standpoint, I assumed that you became the surrogate parent and this was the reason for their becoming a "One Person Dog." Since getting involved with DRON, I now have acquired three adult Dobermans and have never known such loyalty and unconditional love. Also, they have all arrived housebroken, neutered, come when called, don’t chew up the furniture or cushions and my hands never bleed! I never have to go to the bathroom alone and they are all "Velcro" dogs. They sure do stick to you, both physically and emotionally.

Now from the dog’s standpoint, they don’t take all this loving for granted like the puppies do. They well remember how difficult life was before their adoption so they really appreciate the loving care and affection they receive in their forever home. A rather dramatic case in point is our second acquisition, Cassie. She was pretty confused and a rather laid back dog for a while after she came to live with us. One morning she got up, and in my mind, decided that this was no foster home and she turned into a 5 year old puppy! She pranced all over the house, jumped up in my lap from 6 feet away and just LOST IT! She has been a different dog ever since. Whenever I am at the computer, she is in my office recliner. If I go to the kitchen, she is on my heels. I think she has decided,"I have found this guy and I am not about to let him out of my sights!" The three dogs promised to outlive me but if I should ever acquire another dog, it sure won’t be a puppy. And here is THE QUEEN

Is she somethin’ or what?
